For their poster “Enhancing Natural Language-Based Data Exploration with Analysis Pipeline Illustration”, Yi Guo, Nan Cao, Xiaoyu Qi, Haoyang Li, Danqing Shi, Jing Zhang, Qing Chen, and Daniel Weiskopf received an IEEE VIS 2023 Best Poster Honorable Mention Award. Congratulations!
Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) is a necessary yet laborious task when examining new datasets. To facilitate it, natural language interfaces (NLIs) can help users explore data through questions. However, existing NLIs lack explanations and visualization of the analysis process used to uncover the answer. To address this, we introduce Urania, an interactive system that visualizes data analysis pipelines for resolving input questions. It first leverages a novel algorithm to break down questions into analysis pipelines, and then presents pipelines as datamations, with animated operations and data changes. Our experiments show that our algorithm outperforms existing methods in terms of accuracy and that Urania can help explore datasets better.

About IEEE VIS
IEEE VIS will be held this year in Melbourne, Australia from October 22-27. It is one of the world's largest and most important conferences in the field of visualization and provides a forum for researchers and professionals from all over the world to exchange the latest findings on the design and use of visualization tools.
