As part of his appointment process, Jun.-Prof. Dr. Benedikt Ehinger from the Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems (VIS) of the Universit of Stuttgart, will hold his inaugural lecture on "Exploring the Brain in the Real World".
Date: Wednesday, 01 February 2023
Time: 4 pm CET
Titel: "Exploring the Brain in the Real World"
Venue: V 7.01, Pfaffenwaldring 7, 70569 Stuttgart
Have you ever wondered what goes on inside your brain when you read a book, listen to music, or walk around a city? In our group, we are interested in studying the brain's activity in these types of real-world settings, outside the constraints of traditional laboratory environments. This research area presents many technical and conceptual challenges, particularly in relation to combining eye-movements with brain activity. To address these challenges, we are developing, simulating and evaluating statistical modeling tools that allow us to analyze brain potentials and investigate the relationship between eye-movements and brain activity in naturalistic paradigms. Our tools have the potential to inform fields ranging from human-computer interaction to cognitive psychology or neuroergonomics. In this talk, specifically, I will introduce you to the exciting field of modeling naturalistic brain activity and explain how we are working to gain a better understanding of the brain's function in the real world.
