SUMMARY:Vortrag | Petra Isenberg, INRIA / AVIZ research group
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\nSprecher\nPetra Isenberg, INRIA / AVIZ research group\n\n\n\nTitel\n\n\nEvaluation in Visualization: A closer look at current practices, issues, and perspectives\n\n\n\n \n\nThe need for evaluating visualization research has been widely recognized. We have come a long\nway in establishing a more formal way for validating visualization research. Yet, our current\nevaluation practices in visualization are not without criticism. There even seems to be a common\nperception in the community that we have to some extent overemphasized evaluation culminating in\nthe expression of the "tyranny of the user study". In this presentation I will shed some\nlight on the current state of evaluation practices, discuss some (potential) problems with our\ncurrent approaches and how to deal with them and highlight issues that the community will likely\nencounter in the coming years.\n\nSpeaker’s Bio\nPetra Isenberg is a research scientist (CR1) at Inria, Saclay, France in the Aviz research\ngroup. Prior to joining Inria, Petra received her PhD from the University of Calgary in 2009 and\nher Diplom-degree in Computational Visualistics from the University of Magdeburg in 2004.\nHer main research areas are information visualization and visual analytics with a focus on\ncollaborative work scenarios, interaction, and evaluation. She is interested in exploring how\npeople can most effectively work together when analyzing large and complex data sets on novel\ndisplay technology such as small touch-screens, wall displays, or tabletops.\nMore information about the speaker on \n\nhttps://petra.isenberg.cc/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=AboutMe.MyResume \n\n\n \nSee \nhttp://www.sfbtrr161.de/events/events.html for\nall events of the Collaborative Research Center/Transregio 161
